Our Mission

A nexus between Stanford and our partners in the biotech ecosystem:

We support Stanford graduate and professional students, postdocs, and other affiliates from the biosciences, medicine, engineering, business, and law, who are interested in biotech research, business, management, entrepreneurship, consulting, investing, and more.

Our goal is to help individuals explore opportunities and build industry connections in biotech by creating avenues for experiential education, career development, and networking.

We are committed to promoting racial and gender equity in biotech as we serve and represent the next generation of biotech leaders.

What we do:

Networking

SBG hosts happy hours and networking events both in-person and virtually, with biotech professionals and other student organizations. Join us to socialize with fellow students and network with biotech professionals from the Bay Area to Boston.

Biotech Investing Course

INDE209: Analysis of Public Companies in the Life Sciences. A Stanford University course taught by the SBG leadership team with guest lecturers in biotech venture capital and public equity. Curriculum focuses on biotech company valuation and risk assessment.

Company Site Visits

SBG organizes site visits to local companies around the Bay Area, where students can tour facilities, learn about the company’s technology, mission, and culture, and network with biotech innovators.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

SBG is committed to making careers in biotech accessible and welcoming to traditionally underrepresented groups, including women, members of the BIPOC and AAPI communities, the LGBTQ community, and others. We have several ongoing DEI initiatives and are committed to holding ourselves and our industry accountable.

Career Development

SBG hosts speakers for seminars and panels to discuss career paths and specific biotech topics. Invited speakers reflect all areas of the biotech industry including industry research, business development, venture capital, and others.

Resources

We offer resources on our website for students interested in biotech to explore the careers available to them. We also publish upcoming events and internship or job opportunities on our mailing list.
